40,000 wells selling millions of gallons of water to drillers!
Why don’t we require them to recycle the damn water?

What effect does selling water from rivers, such as the Chemung and Susquehanna Rivers in NY and PA have on the health of those rivers? Millions and millions of gallons are going to be taken from these and other rivers and streams. Do rivers run dry? I know that some years the Susquehanna is very, very low. One could walk all the way across it in many places. I can see a time when the removal of water for gas drilling could cause a serious water shortage. Our property in Bradford County, PA, has a well which provides us with enough water most summers, but there have been years when the well was quite low, and we had to be very careful and conserve. So I am concerned about the future there. How will the demands of gas drilling impact our water supply? And why aren’t the county commissioners more concerned? Why are they happy to sell the water from our rivers? Water is a finite resource after all.
