Greed is a powerful force.
Ignoring all the recent news, Denton, Texas City Council voted last night to endanger public helth and safety and allow Range Resources to drill 5 natural gas wells right next to a city park, a neighborhood, hospital and doctor’s offices.

So, if a robber sticks a gun to your head and says, “Your money or your life!” Denton City Council will keep their money and it’s to bad for the residents.
Thank you to Charlye Heggis the lone “NO” vote.

We really tried to keep the gas well of Rayzor Ranch in Denton. The neighborhood had rallies, posted flyer, attended city council meetings, and contacted our ELECTED official. Unfortunately, we could not compete with the oil and gas industry. When I heard the 6 to 1 vote I felt like giving up but then I got mad. I am determined to participate: bitch, whine, write, whatever it takes. Just pray Hillview Alliance wins in district court it is the only chance we have left in the wonderful neighborhood. DOGMOM

Tonight I was getting my hair cut and the people there knew nothing about the Rayzor Ranch well until it was all over. They want to have protests and civil disobedience. There was a bunch of them and they all have considerable contacts. I mean they were IRATE! This is a big, well known salon and they have different, well attended functions from time to time. I seriously think between them, the neighbors and the university there could be some major protesting.

protests are essential and plans are in the works.

The drilling at Rayzor is so dangerous that the citizens of Denton are going to have to do everything from protests, civil dissobedience to lawsuits…this has to be stopped!

There were protests, rallies, door to door flyering for every event and plenty of news coverage about the issue. I am really not sure how people didn't know that this was happening. The community support kind of dropped off after the first few events. I think that is what we have to blame for the corporate victory. It ended up just being student activists carrying the torch with a very small number of people from the community taking part in the end.

Support did drop off I was really disappointed by the turn outs at rallies and last city council meeting. Please don't lump us all in the same category. When I received email council was going to vote I went door to door and passed out 400 flyers. There was plenty of coverage about the well but I don't know if everyone watches local politics (shame on them). Having lived in Wise county 500ft from an active drilling site I can tell you the citizen of Denton are in for a rude awakening. Maybe it will be the (literally) earth shaking event that will bring about change. I will remain active and encourage everyone to do the same. Down but not out.

Just food for thought, at 600pm when we were getting ready to go to city council meeting(the night of the 6 to 1 vote) our neighbor 2 doors down called to say one of the council members, who was her friend, called to say it did not look like the council was going to approve the gas well so they weren't going. She did not say which one but I wonder how many phone calls were made before the public meeting. Maybe the city council knew which way the vote was going and wanted to decrease neighborhood attendance. PARANOID, ME, MAYBE.
