Re: “Critics rap Exxon’s oilfield practices at South Texas ranch” by Bloomberg News, April 25 Business section
The article sensationalizes views of a few individuals who are suing Exxon Mobil and is not a balanced report.
Around the world, we work cooperatively with thousands of landowners and local communities and quickly resolve any issues or concerns that may arise.
This is the approach that we were taking in South Texas. We have been working in good faith to address concerns raised by relatives of two landowners and have been attentive and responsive.
Our efforts to address their concerns have been hampered by their decision to take legal action and cut off direct communication. We prefer to resolve issues directly and believe there is little gained from years of protracted litigation.
We are removing unnecessary equipment, conducting environmental tests and remediating affected areas, where appropriate. We are working with the Texas Railroad Commission to ensure compliance with all regulations.
We are a responsible operator and refute any accusations that suggest otherwise.

Ken, you're just an idiot. Why does it take years of emabarrassing pictures, videos and documentation and tests, all paid for and conducted by Mrs. Burns for you to even begin to do the right thing? Why are you just NOW doing what you should have been doing for the last 150 years? Because now that she and her family is fighting back, and you're losing badly, you want to reach some kind of compromise that avoids your having to explain your reckless behavior in open court. You may have more money and more attorneys, but you do not have Right on your side. You have Greed and Incompetence and Apathy on your side. That's not the side I want to be on, and there is a growing ARMY of people who are quickly outnumbering your kind.
How many BILLIONS is it going to take to clean up that world's worst oil spill in the Gulf? I bet a few thousands in an actual Emergency Contingency Plan would have prevented this catastrophe. Even if it cost a few million, that would have been a small price to pay to avoid disaster. Instead, you spent the money on attorneys, luxury yachts, mansions, weekend cabins, luxury cars and funding your retirement plans.
Ken, when you get yourself an oil drilling or gas well drilling rig on your property, 200 feet from your child's bedroom window, that's when I'll start to give a damn what comes out of your mouth.

No one here hates working class people either because that's what we all are but we don't put up with anyone making excuses for industry's abuses.

Anon: You're starting to remind me a lot of Ken and his type- short on facts, long on personal attacks, name calling and other juvenile behavior when you run out of facts, and then you try to turn the issue or fact into something else altogether.
Timmy: What's this red fluid stuff running out of these seep holes?
Anon/Ken/Pinnochio/Aubrey, et al.:
Oxygen turns water red.
Timmy: What are those seep holes?
Anon: Just holes, you never seen a hole before?
Timmy: What are those bubbles coming up out of those seep holes?
Anon: Just air, Timmy, don't worry about it.
Timmy: Why do these 'air' bubbles INGITE when you take a match to them?
Anon: Methane is everywhere…it's all just seeping up from underground, it's naturally occurring.
Timmy: What's all that crap coming out of the incinerator?
Anon: You mean the 'Oxidizer'? It doesn't put off any more emissions than your truck. It burns all those raw gases reducing what you can smell. I'm tired of the TCEQ riding my ass like a pony, so we installed this. It's harmless. I know your truck doesn't run 24 hours a day like this thing, but it's really for your benefit. The less you smell, the less you call the TCEQ.
Timmy: Where exactly do you get your information from?
Anon: I'm mostly shovel fed all this shit from the higher ups, and our public relations firm. Some of it, I just simply make up on my own. I've been lying and distorting the truth for so long, I can't seem to tell the difference between fact and fiction. I just know we need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, so you're gonna have to take one for the team, Timmy. I won't, of course, I've already done my part by digging up your land, and spilling shit everywhere.
Timmy: Why did my neighbor get a rash within 4 hours of this thing going on line?
Anon: That didn't happen, stop making things up.
