Heads up Dear Readers! Tomorrow the BSEEC will issue one of their press releases (This time, let’s hope they don’t try any metaphors.) proclaiming the air in Fort Worth and Arlington safe from drilling toxics according to their industry supported and industry conducted air quality study.
What they may not tell you is this:
- The company in charge of the “testing,” Titan Engineering, is a favorite of Chesapeake Energy (CHK) and a company that works exclusively for industry.
- The drillers all got fair warning before the “testing” occurred.
- Industry tried this last January in a closed door meeting with the City, the top producers, BSEEC’s Ed Ireland and Titan. The public found out and rejected the plan but, here we are anyway.
We have seen how the BSEEC manipulates data to serve their purpose. We have seen their lies. We reject this so-called “air quality study” and all such attempts to fool the public.
UPDATE:
Here’s the S-T article: Air quality around Barnett Shale wells is fine, industry-funded study finds

She is the go-to person whether it’s top EPA officials from D.C., national and international news networks, or residents facing the shock of eminent domain and the devastating environmental effects of natural gas development in their backyards.

In Texas, I think we call this a load of HORSEHIT. Ed Ireland can put out all the press release he wants, the only people buying his crap is the same people who fund his 'non-profit' and pay his salary- Industry. Ed Ireland is a disgrace and has zero credibility since he's nothing more than a puppet for the Industry. He says and does everything they tell him to do.

Just look at this kind of industry funded monitoring stuff as entertainment. Chuckle if you like when you see it.

Those of us who know and comprehend Mr. Ireland's job function fully understand that this study is only intended to confuse the issue by introducing a conflicting report by an obviously biased study group.
Tim Ruggerio is completely correct, excpt that Horseshit is probably too kind a discription of the report that was delivered.

"Ireland said the drill sites were carefully selected". I bet they were!
"Companies were notified in advance" of the testing. Of course, they were. They HAD to make sure nothing would be found.
"Benzene was found at 1.8 ppb" but not to worry. Now let's model that out for 2000 wells each emitting 1.8 ppb. OOPS!
Titan Engineering is not even a testing firm. They have NO in-house capability.
On January 5, 2010 the city of Ft. Worth had a closed door meeting with the top four drillers, RRC, TCEQ, Texas Pipeline Asso. and the BSEEC. The operators had hired Titan to do this study and the city of Ft. Worth actually intended to put their name on it. We told city officials that would never fly. That is when Moncrief came up with the Air Quality Study and padded it with industry executives to ensure the votes needed to keep things status quo.
Go ahead and put in an open records request for this information regarding this meeting. It is all there or at least it used to be!
