Warren Chisum, who for most of his 22 years in theTexas Legislature has been a key player, plans to move on. Chisum, R-Pampa, said Wednesday that he will seek a seat in the three-member Railroad Commission as early as April.

What happened to getting the RRC's name changed? Are they waiting for the mega conservative Chisum to do that? Or maybe he'll just make sure nothing changes.

Let's meet up at a local gas facility, one where they cut down all the magnificent century-old trees to make room for the tanks, compressors, and other rusty, smelly stuff, and toast Chisum with one of those benzene cocktails. Cheers!

Tom Mechler, treasurer of the Republican Party of Texas, saying he was speaking as a conservative Republican from the Panhandle, not necessarily on behalf of the state party:
"He understands the oil and gas industry like few people do," Mechler said, "and to have one of our guys in that agency is a big boost for the Panhandle and for all of West Texas."
