Several of us who live in the gas patch have been wondering what will happen when those wildfires hit the gas patch. Rumor has it that Channel 11 reported on this issue last night.
According to one reader the report said:
I just saw on channel 11 news that several gas wells have burned in the fires, taking out areas the size of 10 football fields at a time, with nothing that could be done.
Another reader confirmed that and added:
Basically, they had firefighters saying those wells were feeding the fires.
There isn’t anything for them to do when that happens. It’s like a bomb going off. And if the well control mechanisms aren’t in place, they just have to call Boots and Coots.
I haven’t found the news report yet.

Now imagine the same situation in an urban setting.

At Possum Kingdom, I recall seeing a few oil wells, also, among the cedars. Very interesting but terrible complication. Like everyone, I am concerned about home owners and sad the First Baptist Church of PK burned!

I would like to see this come out in the media-if gas wells made the PK fire much worse.
People I talk to say this "fact" has not been on the news, and thus is not true!
Of course, gas wells feeding a fire would be/is very important news.
Good point-about the potential for uncontainable fire in an urban area.

I just saw that Perry asked for disaster relief from the federal government.
I wonder why Perry wants a government handout…
I want to help these folks, and I’m glad he does too.
However, Perry, in almost all speeches these days, wants LESS government.
I’m sorry, don’t walk the fence. Either be for the government and ask for the aid, or stop the billowing about less government. I’m so tired of double standards by our government leaders.
Please, please help these folks. These fires are heading for the Gas Patch at incredibly high speeds, once these fires hit the Gas Patch, it’s a real big problem.
The drill safe people have been thinking about the drought for years now, too bad industry and our political leaders that want to drill here, drill now, haven’t.
God Bless EVERYONE, no matter what.
And Pray for all GOOD things to come,
comment on CBS11:
I'm glad Perry asked for aid, I believe these people deserve it.
Not thinking about the whole picture is like thinking we should cut aid to Planned Parenthood, without thinking about having that many more people on government assistance..
It's like two teenagers being involved in intercourse without thinking about the outcome, a baby.
Keep it real guys. Government is a good thing, making sure we look at the whole picture, like fires and drought in the Gas Patch is really what we need to do.
We need to do away with the drill here, drill now attitude, because it's not looking at the WHOLE PICTURE, it's just looking at a few peoples personal gain…
and they are already rich.
