Next Monday I travel to DC to participate in the Tar Sands Action. If the Tar Sands pipeline goes through, the CO2 emissions will likely push our planet over the tipping point. This is a huge expense for me but it is something I must do. I understand that most cannot make this kind of financial commitment. But, maybe there is something you can do to help.
From Bill McKibben:
Friends –
As is so often the case, the biggest burdens of the Keystone XL pipeline and tar sands development inevitably will fall on the least well off. Communities all along the pipeline route – from indigenous communities in Alberta, to rural farmers in the midwest, to working class neighborhoods on the Gulf Coast – face an eminent threat from the toxic pollution this pipeline would carry.
We know the challenges these folks face, and so the organizers and I are doing our very best to make sure they have a chance to make their voices heard at the action. For some of them, this may be the last, best chance to defend their homes and communities from this monster.
Here’s the deal: lots of people on the front lines of the fight are eager to participate in the action, but haven’t been able to commit because of travel costs. I know some of you are already stretching your budgets to make the trip, but for those of you who are able:Could you make a contribution to help get these folks to Washington for the action?

We’re booking reservations as soon as we can – and with tickets getting pricer by the day, your contribution now could be make-or-break for a few key folks we’d like to see at the action.
You’re not just doing it for them either – by bringing your fellow activists to DC, you enrich the experience for everyone, and make our whole action stronger. We can reach more people around the country by fully representing all the communities impacted by this pipeline.
I’m constantly surprised by the generosity and commitment everyone has shown to bring this action into reality. From opening your homes, to welcoming strangers into your car, to contributing your stories to get the word out – you are the strength that makes this movement move. With great gratitude and respect,
-Bill
