I’ve spent most of the day talking to reporters about the PSYOPS story that broke yesterday and has now gone viral. This is the most fun version of the story.
I’m not a good note taker which is why I thought I would record parts of the conference. After the first panel, I decided to record the entire thing. And Matt Pitzarella of Range Resources (audio files in wmv & mpg) and Matt Carmichael of Anadarko (audio files in wmv & mpg) got caught with their pants down — recommending using military tactics on communities.
Their attempts to spin out of the mess they created has been tragicomic.
So far the responses excuses that Matt Pitzarella has given reporters include:
- The recordings were edited
- It was taken out of context
- I didn’t agree with Matt Carmichael (Anadarko)
- I didn’t know I was being recorded
My responses to his excuses is on EARTHblog.

“Besides, changing your message because you know it’s being taped is not exactly transparent.”

Thanks Sharon for attending! In the metroplex, TEX LG. CODE ANN. A§ 253.005 : Texas Statutes – Section 253.005: LEASE OF OIL, GAS, OR MINERAL LAND “(c) A well may not be drilled in the thickly settled part of the municipality…” is being violated. In the rural areas (and urban areas), the state will not enforce Texas Administrative Code, Title 30, Part 1, Chapter 101, Subchapter A, Rule 101.4, Environmental Quality, Nuisance… “No person shall discharge from any source whatsoever one or more air contaminants or combinations thereof, in such concentration and of such duration as are or may tend to be injurious to or to adversely affect human health or welfare, animal life, vegetation, or property, or as to interfere with the normal use and enjoyment of animal life, vegetation, or property.” That is exactly why we depend on the feds to protect us-not investigate us. And what is this business I’ve ben reading on Facebook that they are allowing the RRC folks to pack guns at drill sites? I thought signage at these sites forbid firearms? It seems fitting that the RRC would be stupid enough to be their worst enemy…not the public….the public is the sacrifical lambs. Sing with me now “Old school fossil fuels, makes a few rich and the rest if us fools”!

The oil soaked Texas Court system is also ignoring the nuisance definition that is properly cited above by Kim Fiel.

“Gastapo”. (From a commenter at the Co. Indy.) That works for me.
