I can’t wait for the rebuttal-the debunking ‘The Sky Is Pink’. No doubt that the documents attributed to certain operators will be labeled as ‘fake’ or created.
I think Doug Shields nailed it when he spoke of the press when there’s conflicting reports, no matter the source, it gets reported as a ‘debate’ instead of the reporter actually finding the truth. I suspect it has something to do with the 24 hour news cycle we live in now. There’s no time to actually dig into a story and make the deadline. I’m willing to bet if we spoke to some veteran reporters, they’d tell us how things have changed in the last 5-10 years.
I think most people, once they hear that something is being ‘debated’ aren’t really interested in hearing the debate, but simply see it as creating enough doubt to wonder if what they have heard is true; and no one takes the time to find out. After all, if we see it on TV, it must be true, right?
When I was in ‘debate club’ in high school, the teacher assigned a topic, and then split us in to two groups-Pro and Con. Sometimes he’d make it interesting and take all the people who were ‘pro’ and put them into the ‘con’ group and the same with the people who were opposed. Each group had to lay out their case-their positions with research and facts. Whichever side established the most accurate and verifiable facts ‘won’ the debate.
The only debates we see today are the ‘debates’ that news agencies create and political. In the political debates, the politicians don’t actually debate, they attack one another, deny allegations, and use that as a platform for self-promotion.
No doubt Industry loves the created debates, as they only serve to give them what they set out to do: Make money at someone else’s expense.
