Wednesday night we attended lobby training in preparation for a day of lobbying today. After lobby a few of us met at the hotel to relax and swap stories.
Thursday morning we headed to Congress where we met in the Cannon building for more lobbying tips with a much larger group of people. We also heard from our champions, Diana DeGette,U.S. Representative for Colorado’s 1st congressional district and Maurice Dunlea Hinchey, U.S. Representative for New York’s 22nd congressional district.
My first appointment was at Sam Johnson’s office. With me were, my son who will vote for the first time in November, Dewayne Quaertermous, Sierra Club, Calvin Tillman, Tim Ruggiero and Chris Nidel. We visited these offices:
Rep. Sam Johnson 17th TX
Rep. Al Green, 9th TX
Rep. Blake Farenthold, 27th TX
Rep. Joe Barton, 6th TX
Rep. Francisco Canseco, 23 TX
Rep. Randy Neugebauer, 19th TX
Rep. Charles Gonzalez, 12th TX
Rep. Kenny Marchant, 24th TX
Rep. Bill Flores, 3rd TX
Rep. Margin Heinrich, 1st NM
I’m back at the room now to recuperate for a few minutes before meeting OHkari and some other folks for a Twitterfest.
Wish you where here with us, especially my dear friends who, after a horrifying aborted flight, decided not to get back on another plane. =(

How to save 5 trillion cubic feet of shale gas per year.
With fracking, the U.S. produces 5 trillion cubic feet of shale gas (115 million tons of oil equivalent) per year.
– Households use 258 TWh of electricity for air-conditioning annually.
With ice storage air-conditioning systems (they use 30%-50% less energy than conventional air-conditioning systems) and heat reflective window films, the U.S. could save arround 150 TWh of electricity.
That means saving 1.5 trillion cubic feet of shale gas per year.
– LED bulbs use 80% less power and last 25 times longer.
By 2027, widespread use of LEDs could save about 348 TWh (compared to no LED use) of electricity. That means saving 3.5 trillion cubic feet of shale gas per year.

I’m switching to all LED bulbs in my house. I still have to investigate the ice storage ac.
Conservation is the main component of getting off fossil fuels but it won’t matter if we conserve usage if industry gets a free pass to mine American gas for export to Asia.

I also stepped into the office of Rep. Lloyd Doggett, 25th TX, on my way out since I passed right by it. There was no one available to talk with, but they got an information packet as well.
