Denton will hold a public meeting on September 11, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chamber at City Hall, 215 E. McKinney Street, Denton, Texas 76201.
The meeting is to decide on four gas well moratorium variance requests filed by EagleRidge, Inc.
This is surreal to me for several reasons. Here are two reasons:
- An EagleRidge Operating worker was indicted in June on a felony charge of illegally dumping. City employees visiting the company’s well site in the 3100 block of Airport Road found a pump forcing contaminated water into a tributary of Hickory Creek.
- EagleRidge was operating wells in Denton without a permit.
You can weigh in HERE but you still need to show up at the meeting.

This Denton city council does not have the guts to refuse the variances. Hell, the did not even have the guts to remove Ed Ireland from the “official drilling task force”. The decision will be made by the city manager and city attorney to let Eagleridge drill whenever, where ever, and however they want.

Go read the comments at the city website that go with the poll. You won’t believe it.

The City of Denton has just cancelled the meeting and votes on Tuesday night regarding allowing the variances despite the moratorium. Basically the city is saying they are voting to allow Eagleridge to drill the 4 gas wells in Denton.
