Germany has long surpassed the US in solar/RE energy. They installed more solar in the 3rd quarter of 2011 than the US has ever installed. It now has 20x the per capita solar than the US. Much of Europe and parts of Canada also surpass US: http://www.wind-works.org/Solar/NowRe-electedPresidentObamaShouldExamineUSRenewableRank.html
