Calvin Tillman and I left DFW very early Wednesday morning to attend the Energy Resources Committee Meeting. I got home about 2:00 am this morning.
Around 11:00 pm, we drove by West, Texas the site of the fertilizer explosion. There were still some flames and clouds of think smoke. I’ve never seen so many ambulances.
I thought about HB 2828. The amended version is up for a vote today in the Energy Resources Committee. It’s time to make laws that are MORE protective of people NOT LESS protective!
Explosion in West should make all towns question zoning decisions
A reader send me this quote in an email this morning but I don’t have attribution:
“That whole side of town looks like a disaster,” Bill Manolakis said. “Who in their right mind sticks a damn plant next to houses?”
Who in their right mind would put high pressure pipelines, compressor stations and oil and gas wells and facilities next to houses?

My heart aches for all affected.
I kept looking at the pictures of the devastation, then looking at what’s right behind my back yard (you know how close, Sharon) …. and wondering when it will be our turn. We were here first, and would have never moved here had we known. Our city doesn’t care, nor does our county, state, or country. It will take a major tragedy before anyone in power takes notice. Who will be the next sacrificial lambs?
