Saturday I bought 300 and was looking forward to settling in with my son to watch it again.
I love this movie. Raising two boys has broadened my horizons in movies and taught me to appreciate comic book characters. 300 is a comic book based on the true story of the famous, last stand Battle of Thermopylae. This battle is where the Spartans drew a line in the sand for Democracy and was the catalyst that started the roots of our Democracy.
We didn’t get to watch 300 Saturday night because I went to put the new DVD into my new DVD player and discovered the player was missing! After an initial panic and retracing of steps my son and I decided to blame it on my fast living.
It seems that the DVD drawer had gotten stuck so he determined that it needed to go back for an exchange. He unplugged it and sat it by the door but he didn’t put it back in the box. Seeing this object by the door and thinking it was the old VHS player, I shoved it into the trunk to deliver to Goodwill.
In the meantime, I had a flat. Decatur Tire Store is the best place to get flats fixed and to buy new tires so that’s where I went. But, they didn’t have a tire to fit my new Honda Fit so they put on my spare tire until my new tire that they ordered arrived that evening. When I opened the back of my car so the “tire man” could get my spare I saw the new DVD player that I thought was the old VHS player and I gave it to the “tire man.” Boy! Was he ever thrilled.
This is not quite how I pictured life in the fast lane and obviously I need to slow down and pay more attention. How to do that, I do not know? When you have to be at work at 8:00 and drive an hour to get there then reverse that for going home, there is not much time left to live life. Add to that being a mother and father, teacher and friend to a little boy and there is even less time. This I know for sure: It’s time for a change.
