That’s what we the people need! We need some lobbyist. Maybe then our elected officials would represent us instead of business interests 24/7 at our expense.
The Devon lobbyist’s efforts were focused on Outer Continental Shelf Deep Water Royalty Relief Act (DWRRA or Act) which gives royalty relief or eliminates royalties for oil and gas taken from deep shore federal lands
Now, isn’t that exactly what an industry that made HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS in PROFIT needs? Relief?
Opponents of the Act labeled it “corporate welfare” and argued that it was an unnecessary economic incentive to an industry which would have proceeded with deep water drilling with or without royalty relief. The critics argued that the oil and gas industries would reap windfall benefits at U.S. taxpayers’ expense.
Well HELL yeah it’s corporate welfare! Devon earned a net–a @$%!& NET–of $1.6 billion in the first six months of this year. I don’t think Devon needs relief. They need a Windfall Profits Tax!
