As a kind commenter pointed out in an effort to belittle me, I have no heat in my house.

It doesn’t suck to me. I am happy and I have Heat!

A year ago this past August, my central heat and AC unit quit working. August is a bad time of year to be without AC in Texas. I couldn’t afford to get it fixed. I chose not to get it fixed. I don’t like debt. I have good credit so I could have charged a new unit but I decided not to go that route. I can’t rationalize investing in a place that will soon be surrounded by gas wells.
That summer, I bought a couple of small, energy efficient window units to cool only the rooms that we are using. We were hot sometimes, but hell, it was August in Texas. I also got a couple of fans that fit in the windows. They pull in the cooler air from outside.
In the winter I found some HeatDish heaters. Like the window AC units, we only use these in the rooms we’re in. Sometimes I get cold so I put on warm clothes and wool socks. My hot natured son never gets cold.
This change in our lifestyle has been a tremendous savings on the energy I use and has reduced my overall carbon footprint.
Eventually, we will all be forced to make some sacrifices in the way we live. Since I am an activist against the environmental atrocities committed by energy companies, I think it’s important that I live by my principles and walk the talk. We also recycle and compost so we generally only produce one bag of trash per week.
At this point, I wouldn’t buy a new heat and AC unit even if I could. I don’t need one.
Neither do I need a fancy, gas guzzling, sports car or diamond jewelry to make me feel good about myself. I’m more than happy with my little Fit and no jewelry at all. Those are not the things that bring happiness.
Until now, only a very few people knew that I was living without heat. Sometimes anonymous posters give themselves away in their zeal to hurt others.
