Bedford residents didn’t want any part of urban drilling in their neighborhoods but their City Council members voted for drilling anyway. At least the residents have safer rules than some areas.
Strict rules on drilling are adopted by Bedford
After five hours of discussion, the City Council voted 4-3 late Tuesday for an ordinance that puts setbacks at 600 feet from residences and public buildings and 1,000 feet from public and private schools — distances so far that some council members say drilling will be prevented in the city.
Tarrant County calls the Barnett Shale their flu shot against the failing economy. The Barnett Shale isn’t a flu, it’s a plague for which there is no inoculation. Too late, Tarrant County will learn that health, safety, peace-of-mind, clean air and water have a much higher value than money.
