It’s beginning to dawn on some Fort Worth citizens that gas wells next to their homes, schools and churches might not be the best plan.
Groups line up to give input on City gas ordinance
The League of Women Voters of Tarrant County is calling for tighter restrictions on pipelines. The Fort Worth League of Neighborhoods, which had previously called for a moratorium on new permits until the ordinance is rewritten, is gathering input from its members about what issues to push.

Time to Get Up!
The energy extractors who are preying on our cities and towns across the Barnett Shale and spreading across the whole country are like single minded drones in their pursuit of income for shareholders. The have made a mockery of our zoning laws, threatened our clean water supplies, filled our air with carcinogens, ruined our rural lands and wilderness areas, intimidated our elderly and naive citizens, bought off our elected officials and church leaders, erected equipment in our neighborhoods with the potential to incinerate our children, elevated our sense of anxiety and hopelessness, etc. etc. ad nauseam.
Yes, they are powerful, but they can be stopped, one way or another. Once you begin to realize that fact you, too, become powerful.
My old pal, Howard Beale, has some advice I’d like to share with you those of you who need a little prodding to wake up from feelings of hopelessness:
“Now I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell – ‘I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!’ Things have got to change. But first, you’ve gotta get mad!… You’ve got to say, ‘I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!’ Then we’ll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it: ‘I’M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!’”

I work in the “oilfield”, and I hope they stop drilling in Fort Worth as well. That just puts more stree on an already thin supply that inturn drives energy prices even higher. If you don’t want drilling in your back yard, fine, thats your right, but do not blame the major oil companys for making you pay for the oil that is produced in unstable countries half way around the world.
