Town council changes gas well ordinance
07:26 AM CST on Wednesday, February 13, 2008
Officials Monday reduced the distance requirements between the town’s homes and businesses and the gas wells drilled inside town limits.
The old ordinance required at least 1,000 feet between gas wells and dwellings and was among the most protective ordinances in the area.
The Town Council amended the ordinance to give itself the authority to reduce that requirement to 300 feet.
Landowners willing to forgo the protection can petition the Town Council for a variance that permits wells less than 1,000 feet but no closer than Texas Railroad Commission rules allow.
