MCCLELLAND CALLS ON RICK PERRY TO COMMUTE SENTENCE OF DEATH ROW PRISONER
Irregularity in arrest of José Medellín violates international treaties
LITTLE ELM- Democratic nominee for the Texas State House District 64, John McClelland, has submitted a written request to Governor Rick Perry in regards to the planned execution of Jos Medelln.
“I submitted a request to Governor Perry that he commute the sentence of Jos Medelln to life in prison,” said McClelland. There are admitted irregularities in this case. Mr. Medelln was not given access to the Mexican consulate, which was a violation of international treaties we have agreed to as Americans. Both the UN and the Bush administration have asked that Mr. Medelln not be executed. “As Texas juries now have the option of sentencing those convicted of capital murder to life in prison, I feel it is Governor Perry’s duty to commute this man’s sentence.”
Jos Medelln is currently scheduled to be executed on Tuesday August 5.
John McClelland is the Democratic nominee for Texas House District 64, which represents Denton, Corinth, Lake Dallas, Hickory Creek, Shady Shores, Oak Point, Lakewood Village, Lincoln Park, Paloma Creek South, Little Elm, and The Colony.
