This is not really breaking news in the sense that it’s never happened before. In fact, it happens all the time.
An email from Calvin Tillman, Mayor of DISH that will illustrate just how evil and manipulative these companies are and how far they will go:
I wanted to update everyone that we have 35 cities with around 1.2 million people represented, who have passed the pipeline resolution. I am working on getting a bill into legislation. Also, I have had a severe problem with odor coming from the various facilities here. One company in particular, has been extremely disappointing, and that is Chesapeake. They assured us that there would be no odor produced from the facility, and they appear to be the worst offender. However, in this process I have actually been included on emails from high level people in one company that urged his subordinates to shut me up during the legislative session. I have been able to get my hands on one piece of legislation that is proposed by the industry that gives the TRRC exclusive regulatory authority. This was what they were willing to show me, I can only guess what else they are scheming. I think it is very important to visit the legislature’s website daily to ensure nothing gets snuck in on us. The website is: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/. Also, if there is anything that you want from them, they will do virtually anything to avoid any negative publicity. And the TRRC has been extremely responsive lately. Keep me posted on what everyone has going on, so we can stick together. Please see the attached proposed bill from the pipeline industry.
I blogged about this bill here
I’ll post a link to the pdf he sent when I get a chance.

To cede authority to the TRRC or its Louisiana equivalent over pipeline issues is like handing the keys to the cheese cabinet to the mouse.

These organizations like the RRC in Texas are a joke! Other states have equivalents, have studied.
