Community impacts of natural gas
Is a ‘man camp’ coming to town?

THE RIVER REPORTER
This is a report from a poorly attended community meeting to discuss impacts of the Marcellus Shale natural gas production on their communities. This meeting did a decent job of discussing both the good and bad aspects of drilling but the balance was due to some “persistent” citizens who corrected the presenters.
This article is worth reading if your area is new to drilling.
One presenter livened up the meeting with a temper tantrum when a member of the audience ask, “What about the health impacts?”
“What about the health impacts?” asked audience member Beverly Sterner. “What commissioners are going to represent that? What company is going to represent that? How are you going to deal with the health of the community because there’s evidence that gas drilling has caused terrible health problems and even death?”
“Do you want me to stay here? Because I’ll walk out of here!” Ventello responded. “The gas companies are not villains. They’re technologically savvy. They’re capable individuals.”
That response has to win some kind of award for stupidity and immaturity.
