If this testing holds up with "the authorities," I'd say you've proven your case!
Anonymous says
What does holding up with the authorities have to do with anything? The "authorities" can't smell anything, hear anything, nor see anything!

Good point. I assumed one day there would be a day in court or judment to be won-at least for those whose health and property were ruined. Perhaps not. I can see people are very upset.
But maybe you can actually prove you've been wronged. That's why we must stick together and see this through to the end.

Are we equally in danger of health risks from living next to a dairy farm, downwind from a landfill or near a truck stop? Cap and trade will penalize all sources of carbon, including natural sources. Global warming will not be solved until China and other countries play by the same rules imposed on the USA. The end result will be money flowing to third world countries. It is just spreading the wealth to create a one world order.
It won't work and the end result will be the collaspe of our economy and the end of the USA being the leader of the free world.

Anonymous 6:20 Your arguments don't hold up under scrutiny.
1. Many dairy farms and large cattle operations have adjusted the diets of their cattle so they don't produce nearly as much methane. I have articles posted about it on this blog. Give it a search.
2. Just because other countries continue to pump out GHGs doesn't give us a free pass to continue likewise. When you tried to steal candy as a child did it work for you to say, "Johnny does it too." Did that make stealing okay?
3. How will you explain it to your children why you did nothing to try and stop climate change?
4. METHANE FROM THOSE OTHER SOURCES DOESN'T CONTAIN TOXIC CHEMICALS!
5. The fossil fuel we import is OIL FOR GASOLINE and other fuel products NOT NATURAL GAS. We do not import natural gas from any of the Middle Eastern countries. Natural gas and oil are not interchangeable. They are used for different types of things. So all the bull about natural gas keeping us safer and paying other countries for it is a lie that industry pushes to scare you into allowing them to pollute.
6. Technology exists to prevent over 90% of these emissions. Industry uses this technology where it it mandated. Why shouldn't they use it here too?
7. New technology will improve your economy and create jobs. How is the economy working for you NOW?
Please turn off Fox News, Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly. They are paid to scare you into allowing corporations to run all over us.
TXsharon says
8. If the objective is to keep the energy for the US to keep us safe and blah, blah, blah, then why are we allowing foreign countries buy up leases, drill and produce our gas?

After we stepped outside the van to collect an air sample in the methane (and no telling what else) plume, several of us had headaches, a bad taste in our mouths and watery eyes. I woke up the next day feeling like I had the flu with muscle aches and my headache lasted until 3:00PM.
I had the same symptoms when I spent several hours outside on the well site at the Ruggieros'.
Maybe you should consider toxicology testing. Your doctor can test your blood and urine. Several people in the Barnett Shale have tested positive for drilling chemicals in their blood.

The ONLY way to stop these no conscience sociopaths from the Mayor and council to the drillers and lease signers inflicting literal death and destruction and loss on us all here is class action suit. Early on in 2008 we in Flower Mound were advised by the great attorney who prevailed against the big corporation vs "Love Canal" where remember the toxins were so bad babies were born without brain cases to class action sue here in Flower Mound. He said the only way to stop them is to take money out of their pockets. He is doing that in Pennsylvania currently. We need to here.

TxSharon (8:58)–how true. Excellent information. Big Gas always resorts to the cow sh** argument. I have asked how many cow patties would it take to be equivalent to one amine gas plant?
Now about Anonymous (8:54). Let's go, count me on the bandwagon. Big Booger is just as bad, maybe worse, than the Barnett Shale.
TXsharon says
I'm betting Booger County is worse. Big Gas loves rural areas where they are operator with reckless abandon for any thought about the citizens who live nearby.

Sharon our government wants to use nat.gas for transportion fuel. The more we use our own resources ,the less we fund hostile governments. As for foreign companies taking our gas they don't,they are investing in them for profit. Also most cattle on large ranches are grass fed, cheapest way plus no chemicals.
TXsharon says
Grass fed cattle emit very little methane which was my point.
In order to use methane as a transportation fuel, we need massive infrastructure which means even more pipelines and eminent domain abuse. Plus, who do you think will pay for that infrastructure? TAXPAYERS! While industry profits off our backs. Not a good plan and fortunately most of America realizes that.
In addition, should we ever convert to methane for a transportation fuel, we will again be stuck with a dirty–as currently extracted–finite fossil fuel. What do you think will happen to gas prices then? They will skirocket!!! Which is exactly what those heavily invested in methane extraction want–Pickens Plan. How will that be an improvement to our current situation? We trade one finite energy source for another and our "cheap" methane becomes as expensive as oil.
Also, don't forget that estimates of our methane reserves have been grossly overblown. What is in the ground and what is actually recoverable are two completely different numbers.
The extraction process is too invasive and damaging. We should instead invest in clean technology for transportation. Innovate!
We can use methane for electric generation if industry will use the Drill-Right Texas best practices.

Foreign ownership of our domestic mineral resources should be prohibited by law. Needs to happen. Likewise we don't want foreign ownership of our public roads, other infrastructure, etc.
Anonymous says
Right on, TxSharon. I am NOT in favor of the Pickens plan, in any form. Just another dirty polluting fossil fuel. No better than foreign oil.

Between the choice of cows next to me or a drill – I'd take the cows any day. And I just might use the cow patties for fuel! In pioneer days they used buffalo patties for that.
Truthfully – I can give crap about depending on foreign oil, gas . . . Really. I'd rather have my health. And actually, if they don't drill so close to urban areas and we force them to use best practices – it won't make us more dependend on hostile countries. Come to think of it – I myself feel rather hostile to the U.S. right now. Not much in gorvernment today to make me proud. They want the gas under me, even if it kills me, then they want to ruin health care so if they don't kill me I can't get the care I need. Some country.

To the cow patty person. I'll go put a cow pattie in my living room if you will go live in the midst of dozens of sour gas wells and put your house a few hundred feet from a stinking amine gas plant and compresssor stations! After a few weeks, we'll exchange information!

The EPA can't say Global Warming is a danger to our health and make it stick. Requiring all carbon emissions to be tested and under Cap & Trade will completely destroy our economy. Reading the white papers written by Chris Rella was where I got my information on how Cap and Trade will work. The question we need to ask ourselves is who in the third world countries will really benefit from Cap & Trade? It won't go to develop the countries or bring democracy to poor people because their leaders are corrupt. If this happens, the USA will be weakened, all of us will pay more for food, electricity, and other goods. But those who are hell bent to save the Earth won't listen because this has become a new religion. The EPA has to be challenged by states before more people lose their jobs and our utility costs go out of control. We must depend on natural gas for required energy needs to sustain life and our economy. Shutting it down is unthinkable.
TXsharon says
All natural gas has to do is clean up its dirty processes and they have the technology to do so.
Anonymous says
Follow the money on Cap & Trade and the funding for Earthworks. It is an anti-capitalism agenda. If we are serious about reducing emissions, we can do our part by energy conservation.
The USA owes China more money than we can ever pay so we can't tell them what to do about global warming. More regulation and bigger government is not the answer.
We use to lead in technology, but no longer. We our headed to reducing our standard of living to half. The impact of Cap & Trade or ruling by the EPA will increase the costs for food and utilities will forever change our country. The working poor will be the hardest hit.
TXsharon says
Anon 6:45
EARTHWORKS does not have a position on Cap & Trade.
Technology exists to prevent these emissions and industry can afford to use this technology. They use the technology in other areas of the country and they should use it in Texas too.

To the cap and trade person: I AM NOT DYING FOR YOU OR ANY OF YOU GAS DRILLERS! Your lofty intellectual argument about an "ism" whatever the "ism" is is so inappropriate when it literally comes to life and death here. And is it life and death for some of us. To hell with YOUR jobs!! You come to OUR HOMES and poison US (our families, children, pets, plants) in our own homes and take our money from our largest investment, our house, and threaten our whole life, ruin our neighborhoods, leave us sick and without drinkable water or breathable air in many instances and a legacy of horror to clean up. To top that off– if we, the innocent citizen, are too sick to work from your ill kept gas projects literally shoved down our throats or have to move to save our own lives and WE LOSE OUR JOBS from your unconscionable, corrupt gas production—that's ok as long as you $$$$$##*#@ have YOUR JOBS. I love America and never thought my fellow Americans would sicken and kill us or run us off our own land and gas us out of our own homes. I guess we are just here to be harvested. If there is an "ism' it is harvestism. There is a new term for you to intellectualize on. We the harvested. You the blood money corrupt driller mafia. It is so very wrong. Why is your life so much more valuable than we the people who are just living here. Your one life is more valuable than say 50,000 or 100,000 or a million of us. Why? Could it be you have no conscience and wish we all would leave or die or be pushed off our land and homes so you can grasp your blood money and fund your move to a nicer healthy home with your family elsewhere, leaving us to SUFFER here????

Most excellent truisms.

I never thought I would hear a colonoscopy on a blog site. Cap and trade may have some problems sitting down for a few days but take a couple of deep breaths (unless they are drilling next to you) and you will survive this reaming.
Since when do capitalist worry about the working poor unless their long lost brother in law happens to be the working poor and need a hand.
Cap and trade your song is an old one we will lose jobs if we act correctly and with a conscious.
It seems to me the conservative government groups have made sure we are acting appropriately and we are still losing jobs.
Pull your head out of your gas hole and take an new perspective on the world around you it is not 1980 anymore. Get with the program and get over the passe notion of Reaganomics to save the world. Times change so get over it and be progressive in your thinking not regressive.

Put your names down even if it is a stage name. Make a stand if only on this blog. If you are so a shame of your stance on this subject that you cannot even say who you are then you have something to hid or embarrassed by your views. I cannot tell one anon from another anymore.

I don't get why this fool keeps talking about cap and trade. No one but that guy brought it up. Sharon is simply talking about requiring the nat gas drillers to follow a few rules so that they don't kill us in the process.
I've always wondered if the anti-environment crowd thinks that they don't have to breath the same air and drink the same water as the rest of us. Or perhaps they think that these poisons won't kill them. God/Jesus will save them from the pollution.
Brings to mind the story about the guy that keeps asking God to save him from the flood, but ignores 2 boats and a chopper that offer assistance. He gets to Heaven and asks God, "Why didn't you save me?"
God responds, "I sent two boats and a chopper."
Mr. Cap & Trade man is going to be up in Heaven asking God, "Why didn't you save me?"
God will say, "I sent scientists with regulations, but you would not support them."
