There is a new shale play in South Texas called Eagle Ford.
The Victoria Advocate did a pros and cons article to inform residents in the area.
Con: Shale gas drilling harms the environment and poses health risks
Pro: Shale gas will be a pivot to the oil and gas industry and regional economy
Some suggestions for residents:
You have an opportunity to get ahead on this and learn from the many considerable mistakes made in the Barnett Shale.
Please do not sign any documents until you have advice from an experienced oil and gas attorney.
Read this book: Oil and Gas at Your Door
Make sure all your lawmakers at the local and state levels have a copy of Drill-Right Texas: Best Oil and Gas Development Practices for Texas. Make sure that drilling in your area is done right from the beginning.

Let's hope the EPA can step in with some regulation before EFS in South Texas is peppered with 1,000's of DIRTY GAS WELLS that contaminate the AIR/Ground & Surface water. Choke Canyon Reservoir provides drinking water for the city of Corpus Christi.

The people in South Texas are very poor and there are many people who are not native speakers of English. They are easy prey to the promise of riches. Those promises have not panned out in the Barnett Shale unless you own large tracts of land.
All the hype about the reserves is not true either. They use that to drive their stock prices up. Also, the jobs, jobs, jobs claim is another lie.

I must say, very well articulated TXsharon.
We are indeed the dregs of society down here in South Texas, clearly, a far inferior demographic, especially when compared to our North Texas counterparts. However, I don’t recall being included in your survey. May I point out your survey numbers may be skewed if you included the non-english speaking people along with the non-native speaking. We typically don’t like to include them in such surveys since they are such easy prey and completely unscrupulous which makes us look bad. I bet they wouldn’t hesitate to go as far to post completely false BS and portray it as fact on one of their self serving websites.

Who are you calling unscrupulous. Please be specific.

We love the oil and gas industry in South Texas. We maybe poor in your eyes, but not stupid thanks but no thanks.Sell your snake oil to North Texas.Have a nice day.

As a matter of fact, I have friends in South Texas and you should speak for yourself because they've been horribly polluted by the oil and gas industry.
There is no doubt that the industry needs to do a better job and they can do a better job.

I would like to bring awareness to this if it is in fact true, hitting close to home. Since they’re your “friends” does this mean you can provide us with some solid documentation like sample data, pictures, names (company names, not your “friends” name), dates, or the reports issued by the environmental consulting firm they used? This would be extremely helpful.
It seems the only substantiated data like the TDSHS Final Report for Dish and TRRC Final Report for Parker County regarding water well contamination, all seem to contradict your message.
This impoverished, gullible, South Texan is eagerly awaiting some scientific data your righteousness.

Google Rancho Los Malulos.
You need to read the analysis of the raw data from the Dish TDSHS study. The raw data shows a completely different story from the spin and I wrote a blog post about it recently. But the truth wouldn’t serve your purpose like the spin does.
TRRC? LOL! Now that’s a credible source for sure.
Who are you calling unscrupulous in that comment up above?

This should not be a conversation on whether you love the gas industry or not. It is a question of extracting minerals without harming people and our environment. The plain truth is that one only has to drive around the city of Ft. Worth and see where the pad sites are located. They are ALL in economically challenged areas. There is no doubt that environmental discrimination is occurring. I can assure you that this did not happen by accident.

David – Corpus Christi does not get its water from Choke Canyon – we get it from Lake Mathis and the water pipeline to east Texas.

Actually, there ARE drilling locations in affluent neighborhoods. There is a location going in at the city boundary of Southlake and Grapevine (suburbs of Ft. Worth, and two of the wealthiest towns in Texas). There is also a location less than a mile from my home in Keller (also an affluent suburb). Your assessment is factually incorrect.

Most of this site is factually incorrect.

David,
The EPA has recently vowed to adopt the standards of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, due to the high standards we enjoy. Where is this contamination you speak of? why hasn't the State of Texas heard of it?
