Small clarification for this statement:"Roughly HALF of VOC emissions in North Texas come from oil and gas activities: 112 tons per day (TPD), versus 120 TPD for vehicle traffic."
Although both these numbers may be approximately true, your "total" is leaving out VOCs from: 1) off-road vehicles, 2) all other industry like the Midlothian cement plants, GM, TI, etc, and 3) what are called "area sources" – gas stations, BBQ pits, etc.
VOCs from the Barnett Shale are huge – approximately equal in tonnage to the entire ON-road DFW vehicle inventory. But there are more than those two categories to count when you want to get to a regional total of VOCs.
