As urban gas drilling expands, so do health concerns
Texas environmental agency accused of lax monitoring, lack of transparency.
Nicely done! But, is anyone else wondering why Fort Worth is broke with all the billions in Barnett Shale money rolling in? And, why is unemployment so high?
This following quote from Ed Ireland, reminds me of Mayor Tillman’s blog post: Is the juice worth the squeeze?
More recently, lower natural gas prices have led to a downturn in how much Fort Worth residents can expect for access to their mineral rights. The homeowner of a typical quarter-acre residential lot might get $500 for access to his or her mineral rights, plus $50 a month in royalties, said Ed Ireland, executive director of the Barnett Shale Energy Education Council, whose membership includes leading gas drilling and services companies.

It is my understanding that the city of Ft. worth has not made anywhere near what they expected to make off Barnett Shale. Well surprise, surprise!!! Could it be that the operators have led even Moncrief down the garden path? Apparently so. The money is not rolling in and there was an interesting article in the most recent Royalty Owners Action Report which was titled "Are shale reserves being over-estimated?" They concluded that yes, they most decidedly were being over-estimated by the drillers. MY, MY!!! Even the rank and file are beginning to grouse.

Moncrief wasn't led anywhere except to his own bank account. Making more than $600K a year from gas well investments, I'm sure how much money the city was going to make poking thousands of holes in it wasn't even on his list. Moncreif was placed into office by the energy companies, and this is no secret. He was put in the mayor's job to do one thing- whatever the energy companies tell him to do, which is basically get out of the way of drilling, and keep those environmental nuts from interefering with our polluting…I mean drilling.
