Pennsylvania Mt. Pleasant Township residents recently received two letters from Range Resources. The first letter received on 4/2/11 is full of good neighborly good will and promises:
…we recently decided to adhere to and comply with model ordinance language designed to both protect the residents of Mt. Pleasant and allow Range to operate safely within the community. The ordinance is broad and covers nearly all aspects of natural gas production that could possibly cause concern
Aw, that’s so nice that they actually decided to follow the law. What “good neighbors.” You can read the rest of that letter HERE.
Two days later when the medication wore off, Dissociative identity disorder kicked in and residents received another letter.
We’ll call this second letter the “Take our toys and go home” letter. This is the typical threatening letter the Big Gas Mafia has used any and everywhere that any regulation of their activities is attempted. It includes the obligatory litigation threat.
despicable!

If only they were less persistent in the Barnett Shale. Seriously, I have never understood this right to drill nonsense. Like in Flower Mound, the town should have the right to outright ban drilling just like other things detrimental to the towns image (like liquor stores of which there are none). Denying someone in Flower Mound the right to drill for their mineral wealth is better than denying every resident the full value of their home's equity. Why do people have the right to devalue everyone else's property and endanger their health? I don't have the right to emit hazardous pollution that spreads on to other people's property so why is it different if Im a multinational billion dollar corporation? Whoops just answered my own question there.

I hope the residents "invited" to this meeting tomorrow night in Mt. Pleasant, PA are prepared for Range to try and convince the citizens to speak up against their own town council's decisions about gas drilling. This stuff must be in a shale gas operator playbook. Chesapeake has done this before, too.
Speaking up with "questions" is the only way to turn the meeting around because they won't present any information about the dirty process. Their goal is to look like they have the town's best interests at heart. Don't believe it.

Yes, this is despicable! And another reminder that gas companies have no conscience. People don't matter.
