UPDATE: The new rules are HERE
Fact sheet and presentation HERE
And everyone is all a Twitter. Literally.
EPA will announce a proposed suite of highly cost-effective regulations that would reduce harmful air pollution from the oil and natural gas industry while allowing continued, responsible growth in U.S. oil and natural gas production. The proposal is based on proven technology and best practices that the oil and gas industry is using in some states today. It includes the first federal air standards for wells that are hydraulically fractured, along with requirements for several other sources of pollution in the oil and gas industry that currently are not regulated at the federal level. The proposal includes four air regulations for the oil and natural gas industry: a new source performance standard for VOCs; a new source performance standard for sulfur dioxide; an air toxics standard for oil and natural gas production; and an air toxics standard for natural gas transmission and storage.

Texas laughs at local control of gas facillities, Feds laugh at Texas. Aint karma a bitch!

I read that those “area source” polluters do not have to change their ways under 25 tons per year. I also read for NEW hydraulic fracturing opportunities…will these changes just target big refineries and gas processing plants? What about all the localized pollution with the numerous drill sites that “say” they are under 25 tpy? I don’t think these changes were meant to help us in the Barnett Shale unless they are big operations…did I read this wrong?

Existing sources are grandfathered in right now but we hope to influence the EPA to change that. All new permits will have to follow the new rules.
