It’s not hard to understand why oilfield workers might illegally dump waste. Oilfield workers are told by their employers that the waste and chemicals used are harmless and that’s what they want to believe. These workers work long hours at hard physical labor and they have substandard living conditions. Of course they don’t want to drive to Montana, Idaho or Colorado to get rid of radioactive waste. So, they just dump it.
Officials: Cache of illegal oil field waste found
Divide County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Rob Melby said there were “piles and piles” of filter socks scattered through a 4,000-square-foot building that once housed an auto shop.
“They’re piled up waist deep or higher,” he said. “There’s a lot of stuff in there.”
The US taxpayers are the ones who will end up paying the price.
